Retired Captain Lauro Diaz is a Military Veteran who served with honors with the US Army and then spent over 27 out of his 37 years of his law enforcement career at the Palm Beach County Sheriff Office where he was one of the most highly decorated officers and one of the few to receive The Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service; Meritorious Service for extraordinary conduct directly for the performance of criminal justice duties involving a degree of personal risk to life and limb; Three Combat Crosses (1992, 1993 & 2007) for outstanding acts of individual valor involving great personal risk to life or limb when exposed to an armed adversary; Good Conduct 25 Years of Service without reprimand, discipline, or instance of negative report; Distinguished Service Award on behalf of the City of West Palm Beach Department for providing Selfless Provision of Polices Services on 10/22/2003 as we honored Officer Thomas J. Morash who on 10/17/2003 made the ultimate sacrifice while performing service with Honor to the Citizens of WPB; Unit Commendation for the Greenacres Pedophile Investigations; Personal Commendation; and Deputy of the Year in 1985.

During Lauro’s law enforcement career, he has worked his way from Road Patrol, Narcotics Agent, Detective in Tactical Unit, Sergeant of Road Patrol and Sergeant of Narcotic Unit, then Lieutenant of Narcotic Unit, Lieutenant of Tactical Unit and SWAT Commander, 911 Coordinator, Captain of Training Bureau, Captain of Criminal Investigations Division, Captain of Law Enforcement Division, Captain of Organized Crime Bureau, Captain/CDO (Command Duty Officer); and Deputy Chief at a city municipality before resigning to run for Palm Beach County Sheriff Office.

As your sheriff, Lauro’s number one core value is Transparency, and he truly believes the Sheriff’s Office is the people’s office. “The duty of the Sheriff is to serve all, not just some, and citizens must always come first before politics.” Lauro believes that if we treat each other with equality, respect, professionalism, integrity, compassion, and courage, we can achieve a stronger and safer county. His involvement with community leaders and community programs over the years has strengthened his passion and commitment for community involvement creating and Director of Bless Your Soul Foundation to help children in need of shoes. School safety for all public, private & charter schools, as well as the visionary spearhead to the new, One Time, One Chance, One Way Program to help assist victims relocate to their loved ones while combating domestic violence in new innovative ways. Addressing the homelessness issues and assist the homelessness population of Palm Beach County. Lauro is a proud graduate of Kaplan University with Honors and Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, and a Master’s Degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management. With over 1,000 hours in specialty law enforcement training such as: Active Shooter Law Enforcement Response & Instructor Course; National Dignitary Protection School, Washington, DC; Special Response Teams U.S. Army, Ft. Carson, and Co; Drug Enforcement Agency – Drug Investigations, Miami, FL to name a few of the dozens of specialized courses.
